This is the accepted safe method to remove liquid and powder (acrylic) enhancements safely with NO DAMAGE TO THE NATURAL NAIL.
Materials needed:
cotton balls
tin foil cut into 10 3 inch squares
stainless steel cuticle pusher works best, but an orangewood stick will do
100% pure acetone (can be purchased at the hardware store if nothing else)
180 grit nail file
200 grit (or higher) buffer (even a 3 way buffer can be found at local drugstores)
moisturizing oil (can be olive, sunflower, jojoba, almond, grapeseed, sunflower oil from kitchen)
Moisturizing lotion (something with little or no perfumes or dyes and contains a humectant)
ONE FINGER AT A TIME--use 180 grit file to shorten length and take down thickness of nail and then soak cotton ball in acetone and lay on top of and folded over the edge of nail and wrap in tin foil--squeeze wrap to form to fingertip
After all fingertips have been wrapped--wrap hands in warm towel and wait 20 minutes.
Open ONE wrap and use pusher to "push" acrylic off of nail gently but firmly. If there is still some stubborn pieces--close wrap and move on to next nail. Once all nails have the bulk of the acrylic removed and the you have gone back to the ones you rewrapped and finished cleaning them up--remove all wraps and use 200 grit file or 3 way buffer to smoothe residue on nail surface.
Wash hands thoroughly!
Apply oil to fingertips and massage into nail and surrounding tissue.
Apply lotion to entire hands and massage in well
At this point if you wish to apply a strengthening base coat and then polish your nails, you can use a cottonball with acetone in it to scrub JUST THE NAIL SURFACE to cleanse all oils and bacteria from nail surface so the base coat will adhere to the nail plate.
THIS METHOD WILL REMOVE LIQUID AND POWDER (ACRYLIC) ENHANCEMENTS AND SOAK OFF GEL ENHANCEMENTS WITH NO HARM TO YOUR NATURAL NAIL---BUT--IT WILL DO NOTHING TO TRADITIONAL GEL ENHANCEMENTS AS THEY MUST BE BUFFED/FILED OFF BY A PROFESSIONAL TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE NATURAL NAIL.

Great tutorial Claudia! Hopefully people will use it instead of prying off their nails. Ugh, just thinking about it makes me shudder.
If you don't mind me asking, why do you prefer using a stainless cuticle pusher, and does it get gunked up, or does the product come off the metal easily?
I've always used orangewood sticks for removal, just because they're disposable. Does a stainless pusher work better?

I feel that stainless steel pushers, used carefully, work better just because they are wider, they are shaped more to the curve of the natural nail and they clean and sanitize very easily. Using one requires very little effort to remove the product from the entire nail in one or two pushes at most.
