Default How to clean washable nail files

I bought some washable nail files, and I'm not sure how to clean them. I was thinking washing them with some anti-bacterial soap and warm water, and then spritzing them with that santizing spray I got last month(thymol and alcohol).

What do you think? I almost didn't bother to clean them, but then I sort of filed off chunks of flesh and bled all over.

A lot of board files advertise that they are washable--but they are really not. What they mean by "washable" is that they can be brushed off with a stiff brush and then sprayed with a sanitizing spray. That really isn't good enough. In fact, in most states; it's illegal. In order to be properly disinfected and sanitized; the implement has to be able to withstand a thorough scrubbing in soapy water, completely immersed in a hospital grade disinfectant for at least 10 minutes then rinsed with clear water and dried. Those board files and other porous implements can not withstand that and are really meant to be single use items.

So I shouldn't feel guilty if I throw this away, right? I mean, it was only a buck.

Oh, that makes me think of one of the more popular salons here. Not what I would call a cheap place. They only spray their files and buffers! That's all they do. They use Barbicide, but still. Those files don't stay wet for the proper length of time.

Okay, I"m chucking this file away. I have to go back to Sally's this week for nail forms, and I think I'll stock up on the files. Thanks, sweetie!

You bet, that is why I mentioned before that you should not waste too much money on all those cushion files and such. Just stick to the board files that cost 60 cents or less.

That is so true! I used a cushion board and didn't see any difference in difficulty level in shaping an acrylic nail. The stiff boards aren't stiff anyhow, and are easily flexed between the first two fingers into a curve.

The cushy was such a waste of money. Thankfully, that's the one I bled on and threw away. I'll stick to the basic board files!
