Hi all, I plan to operate my own Nail business with my family and we want to have a pedicure spa section for our clients. After doing research online i've narrowed my choices from T4, GulfStream, European Touch, Lexor, and Whale Spa. Can anybody share some experiences or preferences with these brands so I can make a good decision besides just the way it looks? Thanks all!
I, personally, don't like pedi spas and don't encourage the use of them. They are big, expensive, time consuming to clean to PBA standards and a liability. According to standards, it takes a minimum of 22 minutes between clients to properly disinfect them between clients. Are you willing to let not only a chair to sit empty that long but to let an employee waste that much of her time throughout the day when she could be working on the next client? Much better to use pedi bowls that are less expensive, can be used with liners, can be be used and left in the back to sanitize at the end of each day, don't have moving parts that need to be taken apart after each use and can be stacked in closed cabinet when not in use.
Or you could even specialize in "dry pedis", that are just as relaxing and thorough and do not require a tub of water.

omg Claudia I had no idea . Is there particular brand of pedi bowls that you like? Where can I get them? I will google "dry pedi" right now. My mom is Vietnamese, and she very insistent that we get at least 2 of these chairs. Is it because the chairs are so troublesome that they're not really talked about in threads?
Yeah, I think it is one of those things that is just avoided. There actually have been a lot of lawsuits countrywide over infections (as serious as MSRA) and even a couple of deaths that resulted in poor sanitation of these things. I just see them as a huge unecessary expense and liability. If you google "pedi bowl", you should come with a company that makes the most beautiful resin and copper bowls that even have matching foot rests and treatment trays. Little spendy, but so worth it.
But the put up with a lot of abuse and last FOREVER! Definitely worth it in the end. But I have heard of a lot of techs using galvanized oblong icebuckets with great success. I like to keep a crock pot full of small smooth stones heated to put in the bottom of mine. Feels wonderful.

I'm not a nail pro at all, but just as a well-paying customer, I won't put my foot into one of those pedi-chair spas. They are VERY hard to clean(don't get me started on those disgusting jets), and I've not seen one single salon that cleaned them properly. And I'm not talking about cheap salons, either. Little yuppies like those chairs, so they can get a vibrating butt massage.
I think it's tons classier to use the pedi-bowls, with heated stones at the bottom. I'm very tempted to try a place like that! Heated stones, a good foot massage, and a polish-- oh, heaven!
Plus, those bowls aren't expensive(a couple hundred) compared to a $2500 pedi spa chair! They'll be a snap to keep clean. Have you shown them to your mom yet?
Yeah but my mom is stubborn and she's very old fashioned and I guess grow up using the chairs so she totally has her heart set on that. <sigh> I didn't know the pedicure spa that hard to clean.
