I am a Nail Tech starting out to build my clientele. My salon is paying me 50%...
...commission and I supply my? acrylic and liquid. They supply everything else like for manicures and pedicures and polish. Is this a good deal? The salon wanted to give me $8.00 an hour but I asked for commission instead. In the past 3 weeks that I have worked I have made less than $200 total. Did I make a mistake asking for commission? Would it be an inconvenience for me to ask the owner for hourly for a few months until business picks up? What would you do?
Just starting out, you probably should have taken the hourly. It could take you a year or more to build a full book. However, the harder you work and the more you get your name out there--the faster it will happen. You need to do what is best for you--financially and personally.
Also if the owner is a good owner and can see you have potential, they would be foolish not to renigociate your employment/rental agreement. Plus, if you show true customer service, ask for and get referals, sell product, and in general are an asset to the salon dont be shy about asking for a higher % in your favor in the future. Just dont be wishy washy and ask to switch everytime things get better or get slower. Have a blessed day
