I go to a school for cosmetology and we are having problems with the gel nails we are doing on customers breaking easily. We are using CND Brisa products...the tips are staying adhered to the nails, but they are breaking off - almost like a natural nail would break. We are trying to do troubleshooting to figure out what is happening and why they would be breaking...does anyone have any ideas for us? We have changed the glue we are using on the tips, used different lights, used brand new gel...but nothing seems to be helping...any ideas?? Thank you in advance!!
How does the overall structure of your nail look? Do you have plenty of product in the stress area creating a proper arch? Gel is a bit more flexible than traditional L&P, so the longer the nail, the more balanced the structure needs to be for strength. Even product, sidewall to sidewall, good c curve. Since you are a school, have you talked to CND about an educator coming in and trouble shooting for you?
I don't know if my instructors have talked to CND yet - we were trying to find out as much information on our own in case it was something simple that we were doing wrong. I will ask them about bringing someone in. I will also make sure we are putting enough product on the stress points. I really like working with gel better than L&P, but I feel as though L&P enhancements stay a lot better and seem to be stronger. I have read alot online about people's opinions on L&P vs gel - but in my experience it seems that L&P are stronger - just trying to figure out what I should focus on when I leave school and start my own salon...thanks for your input!!
It is not so much that L&P is stronger, but that gel is more flexible. This, in itself, is a different kind of strength. Since I only sculpt natural looking nails, I choose either L&P or Gel for each individual person based on their needs, desires and overal lifestyle. No one type of enhancment is going to suit everyone.
I haven't tried CND gels BUT at my school we use the IBD gel system and it seems to work great the only issues I have are when I don't properly clean and prep the nail and it starts to lift within a few days.
This is a gel set I did:
It was my first set so my arch isn't perfect I have also learned to flash cure the gels to help build up the arch since gels level so quick.
