Hi... I've been doing gel nails for the past 6 months. Last week I had a problem with two of my clients. They both had hairline cracks on 2 nails. At first I thought it was the gel but when I removed the gel polish the gel underneath was just perfect. I really would like to know why this happens? I read on the internet that sometimes when you change your top coat it causes hairline cracks but I always use the same one.
Because gel is inherantly more flexible than L&P, the overall enhancment is more flexible--but not as flexible as the natural nail. This is why I question clients carefully before deciding to gel or L&P on them--to decide which is more suitable to the way they live their life. If they are cracking any one part of their enhancments, they may need a heavier application of gel or move to a more rigid L&P enhancment.
You may also want to consider the lamp. Are your bulbs old or dirty? Maybe you need to change them. You could have a case of improperly cured gel. IDK, but it might be something to think about.
