I've done my own nails for years, and have recently discovered gel nails. I'm not a nailtech (maybe I missed my calling in life, lol). I am doing a make up artistry course. To me, make up artists need pretty nails. I'm a nurse. But I work from home auditting charts, and also go out into public facilities and do the same. There for a while, I didn't do my nails, but realizing I need to have beautiful nails, I changed my course. I didn't have nails for a few years, but I bite my nails, but have stopped, mainly. When my nails are done, I don't mess with them. Therefore I like to keep them done. They weren't too short for the gel, and look flawless now.
My first time with gels, after buying the correct 36 watt lamp, my gels came out flawless. They are prettier than I ever expected. It's been about 5 days, and still not lifting, except for one. The 36 watt lamp is amazing, and I'm still in awe of how great they look-gels-no more powder to mix.
I had a lamp that I was told by a certain beauty supply store that would work for gels. I found out it wasn't 36 watt, and I had to redo them. Needless to say, I returned the first lamp. I ordered the correct lamp, and redid my gels.
I was trying to pry something last night, and one of my gels came off. I glued it back on, and when it's time to fill them, I will. Prying is an old habit, and not a good idea to do with any artificial nail.
My question is...I use a gel product I buy at the beauty supply store. Is it sufficient, or do I need to get a better brand? I can probably get it only without having a license. Can we use brand names, here in the forum?
I like the nails...when I fill them, do I put gel over the entire nail, or buff out the ridge, to the natural nail, and fill it at that spot down to the cuticle area? They aren't painted, they are white tips. And they look good, except my natural nails are a bit short, but won't be after a couple of months of gel tips. Do you fill gels like you do acryllic nails? When my nails get a bit longer, I might decide to have them done. But I had a bad experience once at a nail salon, and have since, done my own, without incident. I'm 49 years old, and going to nail school is not yet, affordable....but I was seriously thinking about it. Make up classes are fantastic.
You basically use the same procedures as L&P to fill. And if you have a question about a specific brand; you should probably use the name so that someone with experience with that brand can help you with your questions.

I just discovered Geleration, and I'm switching to that brand, when I am out of Nailbliss. I am using Nailbliss right now. It is fine. It works. My nails are staying, except for one (the one I use the most.) I'm quite happy and surprised with the outcome.
Okay, but you know that the soak off gel polishes like Geleration are not meant to be used as an enhancment. They can be used over an existing enhancment; but not in place of an enhancment product. So SOGP over just a tip is not going to give you the strength you need to support the length.
