Would i be able to put clear nail polish over the gel nails to keep them from falling off?

Not really. If you are in need of a fill because they are grown out or they are lifting at the cuticle area--you really need to get that done if you mean to keep them maintained. If you are looking to let them grow out, you still need to have the lifted area removed and the enhancment buffed flush to the natural nail and the length shortened to prevent breakage. At this point you can polish them.
