Getting my nails strong after removing GELS?

I've wore Gel (fake) nails for at least 3 years and have recently taken them off. Now my nails are weak and thin. I bought OPI weak/thin nail strengthener and have been using it for 3 week but have seen no difference. Should I just go back to my artifical nails? Or is OPI what I should be using and just have to be patient?
