I no if you don't use a base coat on your natural nails the polish will stain the nail but should you use a base coat when you paint acrylic nails as well?
Yes. And there are basecoats made specifically for use on L&P acrylic nails. OPI has a good one. If you don't use it, you run the risk of staining your enhancments or the polish peeling off in one sheet.

Say, Claudia, I bought that OPI base for acrylic enhancements and it went on kind of white and streaky. Did I paint it on too thick? I mean, after I put on my nail polish, I could see the white base streaks.
Well, even if you shake it well it should still go on milky looking, but not streaky. And try to lay it down by lightly floating your brush down your nail in no more than 3 strips. Are you using 2 coats of your polish?

Yes, actually I could still see the streaks after the two coats of polish, so I put down a third. I could still see them on some nails, so I think I'm just crap at putting on nail polish!
Well, just practice rolling the bottle between your hands to slightly warm and mix it, then pull the brush up one side of the bottle to wipe off one side of the brush. Turn the brush over so the loaded side faces your nail, start with the top center and draw straight down the nail and one strip on either side of that on. Practice, practice, practice.
there are also clear base coat or adhesive base coats as well. i personally like the adhesive ones because the are tacky until you add your polish and top coat.

I NEVER use a base coat when I apply polish over my acrylic nails and I have never had a problem with staining. I see it as an added step that isn't necessary.
i never use a base coat over acrylics because when they come back for thier fills i have to file the polish off anyway and it never stains. i usually put a u.v. topcoat over the polish so it will last the two weeks till they come back.but it has to be completely dry.
I don't get it, dont you need to use primers first than acrylic powerder than top code? if you were using base code, do you still need primer? would the step be primer, base code, acrylic powerder, then top code?
